“The Dead Matter” Soundtrack Review

The Dead Matter Soundtrack Review

By Tim Gross

These days most movie soundtracks pretty much consist of whatever popular pop song that is playing on the radio or whatever is being downloaded these days to their IPod. It’s very rare these days that you get an actually ‘soundtrack’. Most movie soundtracks when released have that one song you already heard a thousand times and some other songs from over the years that were in the film for about ten seconds. With “The Dead Matter” soundtrack, it goes old school: making original music that fits the film. When a track plays on “The Dead Matter” soundtrack you can picture an exact scene from the film… But not only that you are able to get lost in the music, it creates an eerie atmosphere of dark creepiness and fun that you remember when first listening to a soundtrack from Carpenter’s “Halloween” or “The Thing” or even Richard Band’s “Re-Animator”. “The Dead Matter” music means something that isn’t there just for background noise as most soundtracks are these days for movies? “The Dead Matter” soundtrack is a vital part of the film as it is just as important as the acting or how certain scenes are shot; the music is able to tell you the story as you watch the film. It’s a great soundtrack to add to your music collection if you are not only a movie lover but a movie soundtrack lover as each track flows well into the next. I give “The Dead Matter” soundtrack 3 out of 4 stars and can be found at www.midnightsyndicate.com .

2001 MANIACS : FIELD OF SCREAMS Soundtrack for sale!

2001 MANIACS : FIELD OF SCREAMS soundtrack

In the tradition of cult soundtracks such as NATIONAL LAMPOON’s ANIMAL HOUSE and PULP FICTION, this jam packed soundtrack album features Songs, Dialogue, Ditties and Score In One Finger-Lickin’ Good Package!

…BUYSOUNDTRAX Records presents 2001 Maniacs: Field Of Screams, featuring music composed by Patrick Copeland and a host of artists for the 2010 horror film written and directed by Tim Sullivan and starring Bill Moseley (Night of the Living Dead, House of 1000 Corpses), Lin Shaye (“Snakes on a Plane”), Kevin “ohgr” Ogilivie (“Repo! The Genetic Opera”), Christa Campbell (“Day of the Dead”), Ahmed Best (“Star Wars: The Phantom Menace”), Trevor Wright (“Shelter”) and telenovela vixen Andrea Leon (“Hood of Horror”). According to Sullivan and producer Christopher Tuffin, it is as much a wild re-imagining of the preceding films as a sequel to them. Their intention was to raise the stakes beyond the ordinary glut of by-the-numbers horror releases to create a smart, genre-defying feature that pushes every limit to the extreme. Tuffin compares “Maniacs” to an episode of “South Park” or “The Simpsons” in the sense that “Maniacs” is nothing less than a carnival house mirror held up to American culture.

The soundtrack features songs provided by fans of the franchise found on Myspace and Facebook, as well as the film’s star Bill Moseley providing the end-title track, with original music by Patrick Copeland (Hood of Horror).

Come get a taste of the old south and let the old south get a taste of you!!

When this year’s round of unsuspecting Northerners fail to show up for their annual Guts N’ Glory Jamboree, the residents of Pleasant Valley take their cannibalistic carnival on the road and head to Iowa where they encounter spoiled heiresses Rome and Tina Sheraton and the cast and crew from their “Road Rascals” reality show. Performing “The Bloodiest Show on Earth”, our Southern maniacs prove to be more than ratings killers in what John Landis has called “one of the rare sequels that surpasses the original.”

To put together the sonic backdrop, Sullivan turned to the fans, “Horror movies are to film what punk rock is to music,” said Sullivan, “the rebellious, bastard stepchild of a medium.” Without a big music budget, Sullivan made the populist appeal — he put out the word through various social networking sites looking for music.

“The response was tremendous,” explains Sullivan. “None other than Mayor Buckman himself lead the charge with Bill Moseley’s very own Lord Let Me Help You, a terrific track he whipped up with Rani Sharone and their band Spider Mountain.”

The result is a soundtrack as maniacal as the film. Highlights include Psycho Charger’s newly recorded “The South Will Rise (Field of Screams”), twangy-country tracks from the film’s stars Ahmed Best & Clifford Allen Wagner (who also provides the rocking title track “Killers on the Highway”), coupled with rock, indie rock and dance cuts from United Snakes, Me & My Friends, Sean Avolio, Sweet Cyanide, Kyle Justin, Shawn Mars and Zombie Girl, all interspersed with comedic dialog from the film. Rounding out the soundtrack is the original score by Patrick Copeland.

Describes Sullivan, “Like the film itself, Patrick’s music is a little bit of everything, a mixed bag of lunacy and mayhem that perfectly captures the ‘Splatstick’ variety show that is Field of Screams.“

“Night Of The Living Dead: Reanimated” on DVD July 27

July 22nd, 2010

A Mixed Media Re-interpretation of the Greatest Zombie Film of All Time

Over 100 artists reanimate the timeless classic

Screening announced as part of San Diego Comic Con’s opening night

festivities

Wild Eye Releasing and MVD Visual are pleased to announce the release of

Night Of The Living Dead: Reanimated for North American distribution on

July 27th.

Rondo Award-nominated as Best Independent Horror Feature, Night Of The

Living Dead: Reanimated is a collaborative artistic mash-up of George

Romero’s cult classic. Nearly 150 International artists and animators

chose their favorite scenes and re-envisioned them through their own

artwork, with no restrictions on style, media or process – resulting in an

eclectic ‘art show’ interpretation of the seminal 1968 film, all placed

over the original’s audio.

With work ranging from oil paintings to comic illustrations and sock

puppets to CGI and stop-motion – NOTLD:R not only pays the respect due to

this most important work in horror history, but encourages viewers to

experience the film in a brand new light that bursts with the humor and

horror of a new generation of artists.

“This DVD is like a portable horror or zombie convention,” observes Wild

Eye’s Rob Hauschild. “We wanted to recreate the experience that fans have

had around the country, where they’ve enjoyed NOTLD:R at film fests, on

horror host TV shows, at zombie-themed events, and pop culture gatherings

like the upcoming screening during Comic-Con’s opening night.”

The screening will take place on Thursday July 22nd at 9:30pm in Room 5AB

at Comic-Con. Directly following the screening, contributing artists will

hold a panel discussion covering their varied media and involvement in

NOTLD:R. They will also be taking questions, giving away NOTLD:R schwag

and signing autographs. Confirmed panelists include: John Chesnut and Josh

Barnett (claymation and cut-out animation), Jacquelyn Bond (watercolor

paintings), Grant Fuhst (mixed-media artwork), Sean Williams (hand drawn

animation), Zina Lahr (toy modification/ experimental animation), Brad

Uyeda (stop-motion animation), Anthony Amos (digital animation), and Eric

Schock (comic book illustration).

The extras-saturated Special Edition disc confirms the comparison to the

fun of attending a major con, with the two commentaries serving as “panel

talks.” The first track spotlights NOTLD:R organizer/curator Mike

Schneider as he shares behind-the-scenes secrets to this unique project .

A second commentary features NY Times bestselling author Jonathan Maberry,

the multiple Stoker-winning transmedia zombie scribe whose body of work

includes Marvel Zombies, Patient Zero and The Dragon Factory.

There’s also the hour-plus “Zombie Encounter,” an actual panel that sees

Maberry joined by other experts on the undead phenomenon such as David

Barr Kirtley, John Joseph Adams (The Living Dead) and Stoker-winner Dr.

Kim Paffenroth (Gospel of the Living Dead).

Paffenroth’s presence as a respected academic underscores the DVD’s broad

appeal. The cultural and technological trends that enabled the ‘mass

collaboration’ of NOTLD:R is fascinating to many, so it was important that

the DVD provide insights into process, not just product. To this end, it

includes several different making-of videos. For example, Flash animator

Mike Boas guides viewers through the process of rotoscoping Johnny and

Barbara by showing you his active desktop firsthand.

Extensive information on all of the individual NOTLD:R contributors is

available on the DVD, as well as extended versions of some of their

favorite scenes, several short films, as well as DVD-ROM content, and even

some of their comics. Viewers also get a scrollable gallery of production

stills, focussing on the artists and their dark and sometimes humorous but

always compelling visions.

Over Two Hours of Bonus Features:

• Special horror host introduction from Count Gore De Vol

• Commentary with curator horror author Jonathan Maberry

• ‘Making of NOTLD:R’ commentary track

• NOTLD:R artist call-in commentaries

• Coloring Book contest entries

• Alternate/ Deleted scenes

• Short films

• Horror comics and related horror art

• Trailers

• Behind the Scenes: Animation Processes

• The Zombie Encounter Panel discussion video

• “Night of the Living Box Art” video

• and more…

Gross Movie Reviews #196

By Tim Gross

Metamorphosis (DVD) – A tale of mystery as a writer and two friends decide to visit the castle of Elizabeth Bathory for more info and get the feel of what Elizabeth was like before the young writer sits down and writes a book about her. The three young people soon meet a beautiful woman named Elizabeth who helps them get to the castle with a surprise they and are not expecting? The mystery/horror film also stars Christopher “Highlander” Lambert. The film has a great beginning and a good ending but the in-between story lacks and the film suffers overall. But if you like vampires, mythology, and some good gore you will enjoy this 2 star film from www.mtivideo.com .

Sutures (DVD) – Jason London stars as this old school detective who wants the whole story from a woman who has just awaken from a coma and was the only survivor of a slaughter fest of her friends! It is pretty much your usual paint by numbers storyline of a girl remembering her friends getting killed one by one by a large, dark, long-haired man who disappears at the end. I give the film 1 star and can be found at www.mtivideo.com .

Clue (DVD) – The mid-80s underrated classic that brings the Parker Brothers board game to life with all your favorite characters from the game. Its set in 1958 and Col. Mustard, Professor Plum, and etc. are all invited to a party that just happens to be thrown by a mystery guest who is killed when the lights go out. The film has three different and entertaining endings that make the DVD worth to own. I give this underrated fun film 3 stars.

The Last House on the Left (DVD/remake) – The story is set in present time and not 1971 but tries to ride that fine line of staying with the original concept. If you have seen the original you know what to expect only in R rated form and if you haven’t and seen the trailers for this remake you get the idea. Three criminals torture and kill one girl and hurt and rape another only to be near by one of the victim’s house. Then the parents take it upon themselves to take revenge on the criminals. The remake has its moments with a couple great gore shots but overall lacks the gritty, terror, filth, and overall creepiness the original will always have no matter how old the film is. Besides you know you were only going to get so much with a film being remade by the big wigs in Hollywood. I give the film 1 star.

Maximum Risk (DVD) – Jean-Claude Van Damme stars as a French cop who has a twin brother who is killed during a chase with FBI agents and wants to find out why and how did he have a twin brother? Hell Jean, by now you would have figured out you would have a twin since the early 90s since you did every form of action film with a twin of you somewhere in the storyline… But that is what makes JCVD great! I give this action flick 2 stars.

Death Race (DVD/remake) – I don’t give a fuck if you put four Jason Stathams in this flick and it was doomed from the start, mainly because Paul W. S. (I know how to waste money on crap films in Hollywood) Anderson was behind it. The biggest problem with this film is the writers and director thought society has changed as a whole a lot since the seventies? Problem, society has and hasn’t… People would pay to see people run others over with cars and trucks but people can care less about what prisoners do to each other because its not reality in their minds. Example: reality TV is huge and has taken over which possibly means Corman’s original in 1975 is actually a precursor to what reality TV actually is? Come on, who in the fuck wouldn’t want to run over some people in the street just because?!!! Different writers and a director I think a remake could have been worth it but of course we get this not so clever piece of fucking shit that was just done how many times in recent years with films like “The Condemned” among others. I give it 0 stars.

Black Dynamite (DVD) – Think of “Undercover Brother” with nudity and even more blatant spoofs of the blaxploitation genre of the early 70s. The film is lots of laughs if you are any kind of film fan of the blaxploitation genre, but if not more than likely you should pass. I give it 2 ½ stars.

Universal Soldier III (DVD) – The Universal Solider project is up and running with the ‘Bandit’ (Burt Reynolds) behind it and wanting to clone the next perfect soldier. The sequel is like the original even in story of the reporter trying to blow the lid off of the project but on a tenth of the budget which included not casting good actors, but hey you do get to see the star of the great TV series “Evening Shade”! I give it 0 stars.

The Dead Matter (DVD) – A young woman who badly misses her brother, who recently died, wants to contact him one last time by séances and so on but with no luck. But her latest venture in finding a way to contact her recently dead brother she finds a very odd ancient artifact in the woods that just happens to control the dead and have two very evil vampire lords looking for that very object for power over the other. With her friends against using the artifact’s dark power she begins to try to use it to raise her brother from the dead. The film is a clever entertaining mix of horror, fantasy, and mythology that is only limited by its budget. The crew uses locations, music, and two acting legends in Andrew Divoff and Tom Savini perfectly casted as the vampire lords to bring the film together. The DVD comes in single disc or three disc versions, and the three disc version has “The Dead Matter” soundtrack CD, Midnight Syndicate’s Halloween Music CD, a feature length behind-the-scenes extra, commentary, and even two music videos. I give it 3 stars and must have at www.midnightsyndicate.com .
