Open Letter to all on the fence about Horror Realm…

Open Letter to all on the fence about Horror Realm…

Die hard horror movie fans it is six weeks out and once again it is time for me to make my case as to why you should come to the Horror Realm convention in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Horror Realm’s first year went very well last September. I had a great time plus everyone else did also. But here’s the thing these days there is way too many conventions to pick from? Some who are just out for your money and others who actually try their best to give you the horror fans what you want? Horror Realm falls in the latter where yes, Horror Realm is a small convention but is growing… Horror Realm is a convention run by horror movie fans who want to give you a horror convention that isn’t the same as others around the country. Yeah, you can debate if Horrorfind, Texas Frightmare, Fright Night Film Fest is better? But I’m here to tell all in the Pittsburgh area and surrounding states where lots of other horror convention goers live, Horror Realm is not about ego, it’s about putting on the best fucking horror movie convention to the best of their ability!!!

Again, yes, Horror Realm might not have the money to place ads in high profile horror mags like a Fango convention or the money to bring in say a Robert Englund for example, but the name of Horror Realm is getting around to different celebrities that the convention is not only a fan friendly but celebrity friendly convention. Now with help from horror genre star Ken Foree, Horror Realm continues to grow (Horror Realm is already scheduled in September 2011).

Horror Realm is trying to make their place in the horror community to where it’s a very talked about event not only in the Pittsburgh area but throughout the world by doing their best to put together a horror convention run by horror movie fans that people cannot wait to attend again. This year they hit the jackpot: Basket Case reunion! You are not going to see this reunion at any other horror movie convention scheduled for the rest of this year? Come on how often does this chance come along to meet these fine people? Not often…

Yes, there is other options convention wise out there. But I invite you to come to Horror Realm and tell me ‘you didn’t have a good time’? Horror Realm kicks ass in my opinion! They try to do everything right, they bend over backwards to please every attendee there. Not many conventions do that these days… And hey vendors you tired of going to the big name conventions and making shit all weekend? Horror Realm might not pull in 5,000 people as some claim but at least the people that do come to the Horror Realm convention come to support the vendors unlike some of the bigger conventions where you get lost in the shuffle or just fucked over because of where they placed you or you are not considered as important as the celebrities? Vendors you are important part of a horror convention, Horror Realm could always use a couple more vendors as they treat everyone the same whether you are a vendor, guest, or just some drunk that wants to get Tiffany Shepis’ autograph?

I’m telling you all this because I want you to come… I fucking double dare your ass to attend. I don’t want to hear you can’t because you are going to seven other conventions yet this year? Fuck you; honestly you can’t make one more? Or I’m a vendor and I don’t wanna take a chance? Honestly dude or dudette you have to take a chance at some point in your business to make money or you wouldn’t be in the business… Or I don’t have money because I’m an Indy filmmaker and cannot buy a table or attend… Bullshit, if you are serious about your film and actually trying to make more, come to Horror Realm you won’t be disappointed. Believe me I know a lot of independent horror filmmakers and they have come up with some unbelievable ideas to be able to attend, buy a table, or just get their movie to the convention… Honestly horror movie fans maybe its just you are looking for an excuse not to come and if so maybe Horror Realm is not for you? Hey, believe me I try my ass of to go to other conventions and sometimes yeah you cannot and that’s fine but hey don’t make this the convention you miss? You could miss me getting thrown out of the hotel for various reasons? You could miss that chance meeting with a Ken Foree or Tiffany Shepis or Debbie Rochon in the hallway or bar where yinz bullshit for an hour. I dare you to check this awesome horror movie convention out. I’m not going to go all insane and say fuck you for not supporting it, and spend hours on some random podcast or message board talking about you. I just want you to take the chance to come to the Horror Realm convention the weekend of September 17th-19th, 2010 and see what a small but growing horror convention is like and how much fun it can be?

Hope to see you all there,

Tim Gross

The Independent thriller “Sympathy” comes out April 27th… Support it film fans

Monday, April 26th, 2010

(A thank you letter from the filmmaker to anyone who helped out or reviewed it to get the word out about it. I personally thought it was one of the top five independent films I have seen in the past couple years.)

First & foremost this is a THANK YOU letter.

If you’ve received it you were in some way involved in the film SYMPATHY, and for that I am forever grateful. Sympathy is a film that a half-dozen kids set out to make too many summers ago and a long journey later is finally set to arrive on DVD for North American audiences this Tuesday, April 27th

You of course have seen the film already and the reason for that is because I asked… and you agreed. You did this, I believe, because you truly love film and you’re willing to watch the things the studios don’t make, to take those risks 90 minutes at a time for the sake of independent cinema. Without that we would have certainly drifted into obscurity, but you kept us afloat by writing about the film, supporting & endorsing it, and I can tell you definitively that I would not be announcing Sympathy’s release had it not been for that risk. For you. The internet horror communities and press kept this film alive so please — take some credit and call this one your own.

If you feel so inclined to remind your loyal followers of Sympathy’s existence or inform them that it is finally coming their way we have several ways to do it –>

Some of you are in the trailer, others have been on countless press releases, posters, flyers, sales sheets & beyond. We used every kind word written about this film. I feel truly blessed to have made a movie I am proud of and to have been validated by the likes of you, all of whom I have great respect for. Thanks again for all you did…

The Independent Grindhouse Experience

Last night everything went off with no problems… The movies worked, I didn’t get banned, and a good amount of people that came made the event a success. There were a couple families from out of state that even made the trek to The Oaks Theater last night which tells me we did a good job. The fans really enjoyed the trailers, the giveaways (which there were a shitload, including a Max & Erma’s certificate for Rick Fusselman’s work at the eatery in 2006 which people loved), the surprise trailers, the filmmakers, and the features of course. Horror movie fans went home happy last night from the Oaks Theater. The experience was like no other and the good news is we will have another one most likely in the fall of this year. But I would like to thank again Randy and Adam of The Oaks Theater for allowing us to put on this fun and insane event also would like to thank Sandy, Rich, and Michelle of the Horror Realm convention for having faith in Charlie Fleming and myself, thank you to the great filmmakers Jim Roberts and Rick Fusselman for coming and having fun and see their films for the first time in a theater, and last but not least we all got to thank the now official bar of our upcoming events at The Oaks Theater “Steve’s Inn”. It was a fun party beforehand there! Horror movie fans if you didn’t make it you missed a once in a lifetime experience but the good news is we will have another event at some point. So I leave you with these immortal words of our second feature “Holy Shit… Zombies”, “I got Mortal Kombat on SEGA!”

Horror Realm Presents Independent Grindhouse on March 13th!

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

Featuring indie horror films, trailers & filmmaker Q&A

Pittsburgh, PA – January 27, 2010 – Horror Realm™, Pittsburgh’s modern horror convention, teams up with the Oaks Theater to present a program highlighting independent horror films on March 13, 2010 beginning at 10 PM.

The program begins with trailers for upcoming independent horror productions, followed by a screening of Welcome to Deer Creek, winner of the 2009 Horror Realm™ Feature Film Competition.  The film was written and directed by Jim Roberts, a Kent State University student from Brecksville, Ohio.  Welcome to Deer Creek tells the story of a small town’s populace turning into crazed killers during the annual corn celebration.  Bastards of Horror (www.bastardsofhorror.com) declares Welcome to Deer Creek “the independent equal of Peter Jackson’s Dead Alive”.

A question and answer session with Roberts as well as fellow filmmaker Rick “of the Dead” Fusselman of DSK Productions follows.

The final offering of the evening will be Holy Sh*t…Zombies!, a horror comedy that Fusselman concedes is “as un-PC as possible” and will “insult every demographic possible”.  The film follows two slackers as they fight off zombies and is an indirect sequel of DSK’s 2005 film, Toxic Shock Zombies.  Gross Movie Reviews raves “it is unlike any zombie film you have ever seen”.

Tickets for the program can be purchased at the door the night of the event for $5.  Each paid admission will be eligible for a prize drawing for a pair of weekend passes to the Horror Realm™ convention in September 2010.  Details on the convention can be found at www.horrorrealmcon.com.

While the films are unrated, due to the content, violence, blood and gore, it is recommended for adult audiences only (age 18 and up).

The Oaks Theater is a gloriously refurbished, 430-seat single screen movie house located at 310 Allegheny River Boulevard in Oakmont, PA (15139).  For questions about the venue, please call (412) 828-6311 or visit the theater’s web site at www.theoakstheater.com.
