Gross Movie Reviews #177

Ghostbusters II (DVD) – Same cast is back this time five years later New York City mayor considers them a fraud until they prove there is something purely evil going on under the city. Apparently, after the “Stay Puff†marshmallow man incident at the end of the first flick they were sued by everyone… But anyway the sequel is a fun watch but no where near as classic as the first flick. Both films I think are now available in a two-pack on Blu-Ray and with the talk of a third film coming soon I wouldn’t be surprised to see a reissue one more time before it comes to theaters. I give this flick 2 ½ stars.
Â
Shriek If You Know What I Did Last Friday the 13th (DVD) – An amusing horror spoof that got over looked at the end of the “Scream†phase and overshadowed with the “Scary Movie†franchise just beginning. A funny spoof but like most horror spoofs overstays its welcome by the end of film but you do get to see a young and beautiful Julie Benz which is worth the rental fee and a few other familiar faces. I give it 2 stars.
Â
Reap (DVD) – A short film featured with a great independent film called, “Intrusion†that runs maybe ten minutes but is a disturbing look at what happens in the aftermath of a young couple who are brutally attacked in their home. In its short running it gets the point across of what some people would consider ‘real’ revenge. I like it, and you should too so go buy the independent film “Intrusion†so you can see this cool short film also. I give it 3 stars.
Â
One Second Too Late/ Two Seconds Too Late (DVD) – A double feature from independentbmovie.com that stars director Josh Weinberg, Bryan and Matt Brassfield that deals with a young man’s depression. For the most part the first film is about a young man who basically is abused all his life, kills his abuser, and himself. Kinda depressing but to the point! But the second film picks up where the first left off which didn’t quite understand since the young man ended his life also but honestly maybe I missed something? Anyway I give the two film DVD 2 stars and can be found at www.independentbmovie.com .
Â
Dead Air (DVD) – A horror film that stars Bill Moseley as a Howard Stern-type of DJ and Patricia Tallman as his ex-wife and producer of his nighttime radio show until the show is interrupted by terrorists’ attacks to cities around the US. The terrorists unleash a deadly virus at a bunch of sporting events around the country that turns people into raging bloodthirsty maniacs and the virus is very contagious. A great horror film in my eyes on three different fronts: a) The film uses what people do fear in these recent times, b) The film is down right scary at times as your mind can wonder as you get engrossed into this great film, c) The film didn’t need much of a budget to produce effective “The Crazies†and “28 Days Later†type of horror flick! This is one of the must see horror flicks of 2009 as I give it 4 stars.
Â
Quiet Nights of Blood and Pain (DVD) – Andrew Copp’s latest independent flick is a film that deals with touchy politically fueled subject matter of recent years. Like the Masters of Horror episode “Homecoming†I’m sure this film will spark off some discussions among horror fans. The film’s story centers around two soldiers who have come home in recent time from the Iraq war and they are trying to cope with their nightmares of the war and how to fit in. Where the one soldier Adrienne, is trying to cope by going to a group for vets to talk about their problems and smoke a little weed to settle their nerves. The other soldier is William, who thinks he is still taking orders from his commanding officers which are bad headaches he keeps having and is capturing, torturing, and killing anybody he feels is un-American or insurgents on American soil! As the bodies pile up it’s only a matter of time until Adrienne and William cross paths in a sad and disturbing reality-type of ending in my opinion. The film is powerful, excellent, and taken seriously as the latest war resembles the Vietnam War more and more everyday. But on a lighter side look for some independent film veterans Henrique Couto, Nic Peasante, Matt and Bryan Brassfield. I give this gritty and real flick 3 ½ stars and can be found at www.coppfilms.com .

Breaking Her Will (DVD) – Now, this my cup of tea type of film but the film is independent and did found its way into my hands to be reviewed and so I have to at least give it a view since that is what I do. But anyway, the film is simple… a man with a god complex picks a lovely woman who is hitchhiking and we later find out that she was because she walked out on her cheating boyfriend. As soon as she gets into this stranger’s car (the man with the god complex) she does not know it but this is the end of her life as she knows it. After she is picked up its 90 minute plus of how this man tries to ‘break her will’ with raping tactics, torture, and various other brutal acts that eventually ends in a bizarre way. The film will be torture porn to some to others such as the ‘August Underground’ crowd they might celebrate the flick. But there is no doubt this a grueling, brutal, horrifying car wreck that you will must likely not turn away from just because of curiosity. Again, it is independent so I try to support it but be warned this film can turn the stomach of even the most ADD-person who has seen it all these days! I give the film 2 stars just for the exploitation aspect of it and can be found at www.billzebub.com . On a side note I am a fan of the same filmmaker’s film “Ass Monsterâ€â€¦ Classic…
